If you are sensitive to odours and fragrances you may experience symptom relief if you reduce your exposures. There are now many low odour and fragrance free products available.  However you can not simply go by the claims on packages, you need to do your research and sample products to test for tolerance.

Fragrances are not just pleasant odours, they are also a mixture of chemicals.

Fragrances and odours have been found to be a symptom triggering factor in allergy, non allergic rhinitis (vasomotor rhinitis),  lung diseases (e.g. asthma) and skin conditions (e.g. eczema), neurological disorders, stress disorders and central sensitivity syndromes including

  • Migraines
  • Irritable bladder syndrome (e.g. cystitis, Vulvodynia)
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Fragrances and odours may be particularly bothersome when you are exhausted and stressed and anxious.  Our senses are linked to our survival and stress pathways in the brain and can become intertwined together.
