Low Sulfation and Glutathione is linked to poor detoxification, fatigue and environmental hypersensitivities and food chemical intolerance (Salicylate, Amine, Glutamine).
This can be improved by
- adding more sulfur containing foods to your diet – cruciferous (e.g. cabbage, brussels, Kale, broccoli) and allium/lily (onion, garlic, leek, asparagus)
- improving methylation and also addressing nutrient deficiencies like B6, and zinc (see primer/pyrroles), molybdenum, minerals
- taking supplements e.g. cysteine, taurine (for sulfur), selenium, Immuno pro: undernatured whey protein which is high in glutathione precursors – glycine, cysteine, glutamate*
- Epsom Salt baths
- and reducing demands on detoxification pathways by
- eating clean (whole, unprocessed foods, organic **, low sugar)
- reducing exposures to everyday chemicals, e.g. pesticides, heavy metals, solvents
- if sulfation pathways are very blocked reducing intake of salicylates and other food chemicals (e.g. amines, glutamate) and for some even oxalates may be necessary. If not very impaired, improving sulfation in other ways may be all that is necessary.
- For enhancing detoxification – colon cleanse or sauna therapy (FIR, NIR) or toxin mobilisers ***may be recommended.
* taking any supplement (or food source) high in glutamate is not recommended if you are experiencing very severe neurological symptoms like seizures or migraines linked to excitoxicity ie excess glutamate NMDA/low Gaba
** Organic fruit and veg is not recommended to people with very severe salicylate sensitivity (RPAH Allergy Unit Food Intolerance resources).
*** whenever toxins are being mobilised by supplements or detox methods it is essential to take a toxin binder e.g. zeolites, charcoal other as recommended, but away from food (1 hour or more). Never engage in very aggressive toxin removal (e.g. chelation therapy) without strengthening nutrient base and detoxification pathways first.
